Build a Granite Stone Wall

Get the Granite

The first step is to get the granite if you want to build a wall. Granite comes in cut sections that can be 2 feet wide by 4feet long or any other width. A quarry or stone store will be able to sell you granite slabs in pre-cut widths and lengths; it can also custom cut your granite sections for you.

Get the Equipment
You will need special equipment to help you lift and install the granite slabs. The best way to do this is with a small crane or engine hoist. Other options include renting a Bobcat machine with a chain that can latch itself around the granite block. You can carry decent-sized blocks using a Bobcat, but for really large blocks a backhoe will be necessary.

Design the Wall
Once the granite is delivered, design the wall by drawing or spray painting marks in the ground to designate the sides and ends, and any entrances the wall will have. Now all you have to do is lay down a foundation of gravel for drainage, and then stack the granite slabs. Since they may be very large, you should take some care in measuring them and arranging them in such a way that makes them stable. Overlap and interlock the slabs for the best results.
